Bob W Kaarti is for short-stay vacationers, seasoned travellers and remote-working professionals who appreciate sustainability and the spirit of a local neighbourhood.
Bob W Helsinki Kaarti is a swanky heritage apart hotel located in Helsinki’s hip Kaartinkaupunki district. A secret accommodation I discovered for Day Nine of our Arctic route, which also happens to be a climate-friendly gem that hasn’t garnered that much attention (yet). Then again, Helsinki is that trend-defining Nordic hype right now, but Finns don’t care, so Bob W might not be on your radar unless you’ve come to this post and are actively looking.
This was our fourth base during the trip, and I was determined to find a place that felt, well, different. We’re a group of three core millennials who are proud digital natives and are at a point in our lives where we value practical design and functional comfort over basic hotels and random rentals.
We wanted our stay to be a part of the enjoyment of our Arctic trip.
In this post, I will be sharing with you how staying at Bob W Kaarti made our trip that much more memorable and how the experience of staying there aligns well with our millennial values.

Design-led Hospitality and Living
Bob W Kaarti is the fourth Helsinki location under the Bob W brand. Often referred to as the design district, Kaartinkaupunki is a hand-picked neighbourhood, fitting to Bob’s hip style. Historic façades and high-end restaurants line the streets, while a bustling art scene brings the neighbourhood to life.
In fact, Bob W teamed up with an award-winning design studio, KOKO3, to develop a highly curated interior to provide a unique experience and style just for Bob W Kaarti guests. As you enter, you’ll see that the interior design mirrors the identity of the Kaartinkaupunki neighbourhood cool, modern and very much down-to-earth sophistication.
Think “modern classy lady rocking a swanky pair of Adidas Gazelle sneakers”. Muted coloured carpets mixed with sofas in dark luxury hues. Artwork on the wallpapers and custom-design decor pieces that match the spaces reflecting the spirit of the neighbourhood. The first spaces we noticed were the social kitchen and co-working space.
Bob W Kaarti occupies a 100-year-old building that developers restored in 2024, preserving and reviving much of its original architectural charm. Helsinki is surprisingly small; you can walk everywhere and still feel the metropolis atmosphere and behaviour. So if you are looking to be centrally located, Bob W Kaarti is an ideal choice.
Local artisans, Diana Cerrada, Fabrica, and Durat, a craft the Finnish vintage items and art-inspired pieces that fill each room. Drawing inspiration from Helsinki’s local culture, they described the design approach as discovering the Kaartinkaupunki identity.

Amenities that Elevate the Stay
Beyond its locally inspired design, each space supports living, work, and play. Every room includes a kitchenette, fast Wi-Fi, 24/7 support, regular professional cleaning, and extras like a smart TV, free gym access, and yoga mats.
Most importantly is the bed! Each room comes with a 160 cm wide queen bed and a little nook for tea time, fitting for reading and slow conversations. You have everything you need here whether you’re staying for a few days or a few weeks.
Complimentary Features
From the thoughtful gesture of a complimentary Instax camera and refills of the Fujifilm Instax instant film, the complimentary tote bag, the combination of bold furniture colours and muted hues that adorn the walls, and the quirky vintage decor, Bob W Kaarti captures the warm, authentic atmosphere, inspired by the laid-back muted browns and greens of the city’s riverfront scenery.
Contactless Access
Not forgetting the contactless entry. No lost keycards; you need to keep searching when you leave or enter the premise. All we needed was an entry code, which was seamlessly provided to us as soon as we checked in online, and if you have the Bob W Kaarti app, you can use your phone to enter too.
Luggage Storage
And like any typical traveller, we know things change—transportation schedules get delayed. Bob W Kaarti offers luggage storage for early check-ins and late check-outs. We appreciated it because our departure to Estonia was in the afternoon, so we had plenty of time after checking out.
Pet-Friendly
Good news if you travel with your pet. Bob W Kaarti welcomes your furry friend with a one-time fee when you book a room. The property charges no fee for service animals and allows you to bring one large pet (up to 45 kg) or two small pets (up to 23 kg each) per apartment. This would have been a bonus point for me. Even though I didn’t have Eedris, my cat, with me, it was an accommodation that would have made all the difference if I had brought my cat along.
A sustainable stay with eco-friendly practices
The property offsets your stay by 100%. They track and offset guest stay emissions. The property powers its rooms with 100% renewable energy and accounts for the full environmental impact, from water and heating to waste and furniture. The team upcycles or sources every piece locally, and each room includes reusable water bottles and an exclusive tote bag for guests to use during their stay.
Not forgetting the refillable 19-69 toiletries that are also biodegradable. (I loved the scent!).
If you ever find yourself staying in Bob W Kaarti or at any one of their other accommodations across Europe, know that with every building they acquire, their aim is to change to 100% renewable energy where possible.

How to Get to Bob W Kaarti from the Airport
Just landed at Helsinki Airport (HEL)? Here are several ways you can get to the city centre if you’ve booked a stay at Bob W Kaarti Helsinki.
By Train
Travelling by train from the airport is the most convenient way to get to the city.
From the airport’s train station, hop on either the I’ train or the P’ train. Both of these trains will take you directly to Helsinki Central Railway Station, or otherwise known as Helsingin päärautatieasema.
Good to do: Download the HSL app to find out train schedules and purchase train tickets. Alternatively, you can purchase tickets from the ticket machines at the airport station.
Once you arrive at the Helsinki Central Railway Station, it takes about a 15-minute walk to Bob W Kaarti. Simply enter the address into Google Maps or your preferred map application, and you’re all set.
By e-Hailing or Taxi
Note: We were travelling from Rovaniemi by train to the central station, and that was an 8-hour journey. Knowing we’d get exhausted, we skipped hauling our luggage around town and hopped into a ride with Taksi Helsinki. So if your travel route is similar to ours, the central station is an ideal destination and start point in order to get to Bob W Kaarti.
Alternatively, you can hop on Helsinki Limo, Lähi Taksi, Bolt or Uber, whichever suits your fancy.

Bob W Helsinki Kluuvi
There’s a particular kind of morning magic that belongs to Kluuvi alone. The wide avenues wake slowly, stretching into quieter lanes where the smell of roasted coffee drifts from half-open café doors and shopkeepers prop up their signs with unhurried purpose. This is the beating pulse of Helsinki, not loud, but steady and deeply felt.
By mid-morning, the district is alive with a gentle choreography. Office workers cut through cobblestoned shortcuts, briefcases brushing past wicker baskets at Kauppatori. A vendor peels back the paper from a fillet of cold-smoked salmon; a woman in a wool coat cups a punnet of berries like something precious, because here, she knows, they are. The tram arrives. Some board. Others linger, one more sip, one more moment.
In Kluuvi, culture isn’t something you visit. It’s something you move through, unhurried, on your way to somewhere else.

Final Thoughts
Looking back, our stay at Bob W Kaarti felt like the perfect way to experience Helsinki. The city has a quiet confidence about it; design-forward but unpretentious, stylish yet deeply connected to nature. Bob W Kaarti captures that same spirit.
After days spent wandering through neighbourhoods, cafés, and waterfront streets, it was comforting to return to a space that felt thoughtfully designed for real living. Somewhere you could make tea, sit down with a book, scroll through photos from the day, and simply slow down.
And perhaps that’s what made it so memorable, and not just the aesthetics or the sustainability initiatives, but the feeling that, for a few days, we were living in Helsinki rather than simply passing through.
